Elite Stadshotellet Karlstad is one of the country´s most beautiful hotels and is centrally located by the riverside of Klarälven close to shopping and restaurants. The hotel offers 183 modern hotel rooms, a cosy pub and modern conference rooms. The hotel also has Vana Spa with hammam and Rooftop by Vana with a pool and bar.
Centrally located in Karlstad, by the river of Klarälven, Elite Stadshotellet offers a delightful stay for business travelers, conference guests and anyone who wants to experience Karlstad. The hotel is located in the city's heart, just a short walk from shopping and culture. If you arrive by train, the central station is just a 7-minute walk from the hotel.
Elite Stadshotellet offers eight modern venues for up to 250 people, for conferences and all kinds of events. On the ground floor facing the river you’ll find the gastropub The Bishops Arms which is a popular meeting place for locals, hotel guests and visitors to the city. You’ll also find a gym at the hotel, equipped with training machines, free weights and a sauna.
In 2021 the hotel expanded with 45 hotel rooms and a spa, Vana Spa, with hammam and the rooftop terrace Rooftop by Vana with a bar and a heated pool. In the open air, visitors can enjoy a fantastic view over Klarälven, good food and drinks from the bar.
We dare to say that Elite Stadshotellet in Karlstad is one of the most beautiful hotels in Sweden. When the hotel opened in 1871, it had an impressive character that you can still see traces from. A stunning hotel by the river in central Karlstad
Elite Stadshotellet is located on the riverside of the Klarälven in central Karlstad. Stay in a classic hotel with 183 modern rooms and beautiful premises for conferences, meetings and parties. The hotel also has Vana Spa with hammam and Rooftop by Vana with heated pool and bar. With our central location, you have shopping, night clubs, many weekend activities, train and bus connections within easy walking distance. However, it can mean, especially on weekends, that sounds from nightclubs reach our hotel, which can seem disturbing.

Nice hotell. Good rooms. Liked the roof top pool I pre ordered beer to my room when I booked the travel. I paid for it but I did not get this service. The bathrobe in my room was durty. It was full of white sticky substance. Had to go down to reception tyo get a new one. Please improve your extra service, since you promote it. If you don't follow it up, its no reason for selling this. Check bathrobs when you clean rooms

Rummet, sängen, läget på hotellet bortom spring till hissen osv. Det var en stor härlig säng, man kunde mörklägga ordentligt. Svalt, mörkt och tyst å jag sov som ett litet barn och vaknade pigg o utvilad varje dag. Jag saknade gröt och ingefära shot till frukost. En gymboll hade mina knä mått bra av.

Location, parking, breakfast and my favorite room! Well, in my last stay i did not get my specific favorite room! A bit dissapointing actually. I miss the cozy homey feeling when i stay at Elite Karlstad as i always do but this time around maybe a LOT have been change. I am a loyal guest to Elite Karlstad for a decade now and i have Some expections but my last stay is just dissapointing honestly.

Karlstad itself is a very pleasant city. We really enjoyed our 40th anniversary stay in Sven-Ingvars suite with views of Klarälven! My husband enjoyed his time in the swimming pool on the roof. The breakfast buffet was fine, and not too crowded. Nothing at all. My husband even received a free mineral water from the fridge.

The breakfast was ok. Were to begin? First, and to be honest we thought about making a formel complaint on this. How can you place a familyroom facing a street with a bar/nighclub that plays loud music until 3:10 am? Our kids woke up constantly between 2330 and 0300 because of the loud music.. a warning would at least have given us the chance to choose another hotel more fit for children who would like to sleep in the night. And no, we did not have doors or windows open, its winter.

We have a number of bookable places in our heated garage which is located directly adjacent to the hotel. It is important to stand on the designated parking window. The parking spaces are approximately 210 cm wide. The ceiling height on the garage door is 205 cm in height. The price is SEK 205 / day and a parking place is booked through contact with the hotel reception.
There are 6 places for electric car charging, the price for is SEK 405 / day.

At Elite Stadshotellet we want to promote health and therefore we offer all who likes to run and exercise default routes in the app Runkeeper. We have produced our favourite routes as you can easily follow, three routes of varying length from 3 to 12 kilometres.

Route B - Gubbholmen (6 km)
Route C - Klarälven (10 km)
Laundry and dry cleaning left at reception before 9 am can generally be collected the same day. Available Monday-Friday.

History of the hotel
In 1870, when the hotel was first opened, there was access to materials, skills, and expertise that we can only dream about today. Marble, hardwood, and chandeliers as well as stuccos and ornaments created a special atmosphere and contributed to the way that Stadshotellet in Karlstad still looks like today. It is all about true quality and craftsmanship!
Back in the days, the hotel was one of the largest and most beautiful hotels in Sweden. In 1904 electricity was installed and a few years later each room was fitted with heating pipes and each floor with a toilet. That was regarded as pure luxury – finally the commodes could be removed once and for all.
In 1905 when the agreement to dissolve the union between Sweden and Norway was signed in Karlstad, the entire Norwegian delegation stayed at Stadshotellet.
Many guests have returned year after year to Stadshotellet in Karlstad. One of them, the famous poet Gustaf Fröding, always sat at the same table in the dining room enjoying a glas of arrack punch while he gathered ideas to his poems.
Over the years, the hotel has undergone continuous renovation and updates. We have been careful to let quality rule every step of the way, as we would like to keep the hotel’s charming character for another hundred years. All areas in the hotel have been carefully designed to keep its character and yet remain functional.

Drive towards Skåre and then to the city centre. The hotel is located at the corner of Kungsgatan and Museigatan, the entrance is from Kungsgatan.
From Karlstad Airport: drive towards the city centre, keep to the left and turn left to Klara, Tingvalla. After about 400 metres, turn right to Sandbäcksgatan and you will see the hotel on the left side after the bridge.
By train
The hotel is located 500 metres from Karlstad Central Station. Walk Järnvägsgatan straight up from the central station towards the river (Klarälven). The hotel is on the right side of the bridge.
By bus
