200 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle, in Sweden's northernmost part, lies the modern and arctic city of Kiruna. The municipality, the largest in Sweden, constitutes one-twentieth of the country's area and borders Finland and Norway.
In and around Kiruna, there is an abundance of nature: vast expanses, birch forests, rivers, and as many as 6,000 lakes. This provides opportunities for a wide range of outdoor activities both in summer and winter. You can see the snow-covered Scandinavian mountains from the city centre, the Scandes. Tourists come here to experience the genuine and small-scale atmosphere.
